Evidence: adapted surviving recipe. The historical evidence and modern cooking choices are distinguished below.
Peaches can finish a meal with a small savoury edge. Apicius 160 associates cooked sliced peaches with oil and cumin-flavoured wine. We use that short instruction to make a quick warm fruit dish. The measured liquid and gentle cooking time are modern choices, and the source’s fruit reading is retained with its editorial uncertainty visible.

Choose ripe but firm fruit so the slices stay intact in the pan. Very soft peaches are better served fresh than forced through a simmer. Leaving the skin on saves work and helps the slices hold together; removing it is optional. Frozen peach slices are a useful out-of-season alternative, introduced straight from the freezer.
Toasting a small amount of cumin in warm oil brings its aroma into the sauce without overwhelming the fruit. Wine reduces briefly, and a spoonful of honey is an optional adjustment for tart peaches. Consult the edition notes with the primary passage rather than assuming the published fruit interpretation supplies our exact dessert.
Serve a few warm slices with their juice in small bowls. Plain yogurt alongside is a modern serving suggestion and need not be included. The peaches should be tender enough to cut with a spoon but not collapse into jam. If the liquid disappears early, add water; if it is abundant, lift the slices out while reducing the sauce for another minute.
